After months of lockdown, Knock Shrine has reopened the iconic Basilica for daily Mass.

The move to reopen churches for public worship at Knock Shrine will be a welcome change for pilgrims and parishioners who, for the past number of months, have only been able to participate in Masses virtually from their own homes.

At early Mass on Christmas morning 1842, there was a dreadful accident at Galway’s Pro-Cathedral during which 37 people were killed, and many more were injured. Known as the Parish Church, and completed just twenty-one years before, it was by far the largest Catholic church in the town, surprisingly built in preCatholic Emancipation times.

Fr Richard Gibbons, PP Rector of Knock Shrine, has announced that the National Novena to Our Lady of Knock is postponed until perhaps later this year, depending on latest Government guidance.
