Clew Bay Trail funding will provide boost to local tourism — Ring

On Monday, Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring announced he has allocated €984,000 under the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Programme to develop phase one of the Clew Bay Trail in Mayo. The funding will be used to build 8km of walking and cycling trails at Louisburgh, Old Head, Murrisk and Bertra.

There are not many locations within the boundaries of Mayo from where a vista of Croagh Patrick cannot be gained from even the smallest naturally raised platform. The mountain, with its distinctive pyramidal shape, is an iconic symbol of the county for the people of Mayo. Better known today as a venue for an annual Christian pilgrimage, the Reek’s history is one of changing uses.

It was something of a red letter day at Kenny’s Gallery last Friday with the dual launch of a major new exhibition by sculptor John Behan, and a terrific book celebrating the artist, by NUIG’s Adrian Frazier, entitled John Behan: The Bull of Sheriff Street - The Life and Work of an Irish Sculptor and published by Lilliput Press.
