A local singer has been honoured with one of Mullingar Town Council’s last-ever addresses of recognition. A civic function was held on Monday April 7 to honour classical singer Cian Brennan Gavin for his contribution to the arts and his many accomplishments to date.

Mullingar Choral Society is about to start rehearsals for the 2013/2014 season.

Following closely on their very successful Christmas concert in the Cathedral of Christ the King, the choir of Mullingar Choral Society are now busy preparing for the main concert of the season, which is due to take place on Sunday March 3 in the Cathedral.

Mullingar Choral Society will be joined by the Choir of the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar and Cor Scoil Mhuire this Sunday March 4 for the main concert of the season in the Cathedral.

This year’s Christmas Festival will be held in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar on Sunday December 11.

The combined Christmas Festival presentation from the members of Mullingar Choral Society, Mullingar Town Band, and Cor Schoil Mhuire together with Cathedral Choristers takes place on Sunday December 11 in Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar commencing at 7pm. Please note the change of venue for this year’s concert from St Paul’s to the Cathedral of Christ the King.

Mullingar Choral Society, one of the gems in the cultural crown of Mullingar, is about to start rehearsals for the 2011/2012 season.The choir is getting going again on Monday September 5, in St Mary’s CBS (beside the cathedral). The choir is made up of ordinary men and women who turn in an extraordinary performance, year after year, with little or no fanfare, and the annual concert in the cathedral is one of the highlights of the town’s cultural calendar.

That venerable institution of Midlands music - the Mullingar Choral Society - had its 43rd annual concert earlier this month, and where one might logically expect an element of august gravitas on the rostrum, director Fergus Carroll and the committee felt no compunction in sitting in front of a packed cathedral beneath the baton of the prodigiously talented 28-year-old Gavin Moloney.
