Mayo orchestra to tour the county for anniversary celebrations

Mayo Symphony Orchestra to perform at the TF Royal Theatre

Wide Open Music and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra present Tasmin Little with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra on tour in Castlebar on December 5 at 8pm at the Royal Theatre. To coincide with this event Mayo Youth Orchestra have been preparing a programme which they will perform with Tasmin Little in a short pre-concert performance at 7.15pm in the Royal Theatre on the night of the RTÉ NSO concert. Over the last number of weeks musicians from the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Fergus Sheil have visited Mayo Youth Orchestra to help coach the young players in preparation for the concert. The pre-concert performance is free and all are welcome to attend.

Mayo Youth Orchestra took take centre stage in Dublin

Members of Mayo Youth Orchestra are on the road to Dublin tomorrow, Saturday February 9, to play at the 18th Festival of Youth Orchestras at the National Concert Hall. This special festival has been honoured by inclusion in the Official Cultural Programme for the Irish presidency of the Council of the EU. Minster of State for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton, will be guest of honour during the afternoon performances at the festival and Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald, will present the Achievement Award for 2013.

This February, Mayo Youth Orchestra will join choice young national music ensembles, to perform at the 18th Festival of Youth Orchestras in the National Concert Hall.

Mayo Youth Orchestra to play at EU Presidency event

Mayo Youth Orchestra has been selected to play at the 18th Festival of Youth Orchestras at the National Concert Hall, Dublin in February. This special festival is being honoured by inclusion in the official cultural programme of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. At the festival, run by the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras, there will also be a combined string orchestra of more than 60 players from orchestras in Dublin, Denmark and Norway. The festival will take place on Saturday February 9.

EXCEL 10 is ready to roll in November

The Mayo County Council’s EXCEL 10 is a developmental programme of arts events for teenagers and young adults across the county. The programme focuses on supporting and developing the skills of young people with specific arts interests, while also providing opportunities for young Mayo people to get involved in quality arts events during the month of November.

Commit to music this autumn

The Mayo Concert Orchestra has returned to practice this week, with weekly practices every Wednesday from 7.30pm in St Patrick’s BNS, Castlebar. Alternatively if you would like to learn an instrument there are beginner classes held every Saturday morning for both adults and children. An open day for these classes will be held on Saturday September 20 at 11.30pm in St Patrick’s BNS and classes will commence on Saturday September 27.
