O’Mahony confirms intention to seek nomination in Galway West

Last night sitting Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony announced his intention to seek a nomination to run in the Galway West constituency in the next General Election. The decision by the TD who has been elected twice in Mayo, in 2007 and 2011, had been expected after a large swathe of his territory had been annexed by the Galway constituency following the 2012 Constituency Commission report. The changes also saw Mayo drop from a five seater constituency to a four seater constituency.

Mayo Fine Gael TD, Michelle Mulherin, has welcomed the findings of a review of Microfinance Ireland (MFI) which has been published by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. MFI provides loans of up to €25,000 to businesses which employ 10 people or fewer and which are not able to access credit from traditional sources like banks. The report found that in its first two years of operations, MFI received 729 applications for loans, supported 743 jobs in 333 micro-enterprises, and approved loans valued at more than €5 million.
