The largest and most ambitious Galway International Arts Festival to date opened this week, with more than 200 events running across this week and next, in what is one of Ireland's flagship cultural events.

WITH HER country still convulsed by war and destruction, the visit to GIAF of Syrian architect Marwa Al-Sabouni, for a First Thought Talk, will surely prompt keen interest. Al-Sabouni, with her husband and two young children, has continued to live in her home city Homs throughout the war, even as much of it was destroyed in the conflict.

The 40th Galway International Arts Festival box office has officially opened on Forster Street, to complement the online booking facility.
