I can well remember the last time I met Bishop Eamon Casey. I was late for a reporting gig at some event in the Crescent and we both ran on the footpath around the corner and crashed into each other, each of us as apologetic as the other. In hindsight, I should have been able to avoid him because as he walked, he sang and so his arrival was flagged well before he appeared.

Bishop Eamon Casey, who will be laid to rest today (Thursday) following his funeral Mass at Galway Cathedral at 2pm, was fondly remembered this week as a “great source of love and support” by his grieving family.

The announcement was made in Rome at 11am (Irish time) that His Holiness Pope Francis has accepted the retirement of Most Reverend Martin Drennan, Bishop of Galway and Kilmacduagh, and Apostolic Administrator of Kilfenora, on grounds of ill health and on medical advice.
