THE BEST science-fiction writers do not just write about fantastical worlds in far flung galaxies, their work, be it that of HG Wells, Philip K Dick, or Arthur C Clarke, reflects on the contemporary world, and looks deeply at how technology and society may develop in the future.

New Work by artist Charles Harper is the latest exhibition to be opened next weekend at The Russell Gallery, a dedicated fine art space in New Quay, Co Clare. The launch will take place on Saturday June 19 from 4pm to 6pm. There will be a wine reception and Harper will present his latest effort, an exquisite collection of 24 small watercolour pieces.

An exhibition of paintings entitled Time Place Memory by Kilkenny based artist George Vaughan is being presented in The Butler Gallery until April 18.
