One of those who was seduced by the wavelengths as a youngster has hung up his microphone this week. RTÉ RnaG broadcaster, musician and songwriter Seán Ó hÉanaigh retired from his work with the station yesterday (Wednesday) after 28 years. Seán was appointed Managing Editor of Programmes in 2000, and is particularly associated with music and music programming at the national Gaeltacht station.

The opening film in this year’s Galway Film Fleadh is Song Of Granite, an absorbing and lyrical portrait of legendary sean-nós singer Joe Heaney. It is directed by Pat Collins best known for his acclaimed documentaries on Michael Hartnett, John McGahern, Frank O’Connor, Gabriel Byrne, and Tim Robinson. While Song Of Granite is a feature film, it fits seamlessly into that body of work.

IN HIS first official engagement as Mayor of Galway, Pearce Flannery told the launch of the 29th Galway Film Fleadh, how, as a boy in Ballinasloe, he and his friends were thrilled to be cast as extras in the 1971 movie, Flight Of The Doves.
