Lough Mask Distillery becomes first distillery in Ireland to sell its products to the public on site

The Alcohol Beverage Federation of Ireland (ABFI) has welcomed news that Lough Mask Distillery in Mayo has become the first distillery in Ireland to be granted a licence to sell its gin, vodka and whiskey, to members of the public on its premises under the Intoxicating Liquor (Breweries and Distilleries) Act 2018.

For much of the 19th century, the Persse family ran one of the most successful distilleries in Ireland. Their product became world famous. They were major contributors to the industrial life of Galway and provided much needed employment. In addition to their staff, they were also supplied by a number of artisans working in the Nuns Island area — coopers, cork manufacturers, printers, carters, case makers, etc.

Straw boys Vodka, which is produced by The Connacht Whiskey Company in Belleek in Ballina, has been named the best Irish Vodka at the Irish Whiskey Awards. The 2016 awards took place in the Tullamore Distillery recently.

Teelings scoops top accolades

Teeling Whiskey Company (TWC) has won two awards at the recent 2015 World Whiskies Awards. Teeling Whiskey Irish Single Malt was honoured with the accolade of ‘World’s Best’ and founder and MD of TWC, Jack Teeling, was awarded the prestigious title of ‘World’s Best Global Whisky Ambassador’.
