Three Galway men are among those who joined with Meath GAA legend Sean Boylan, former Irish rugby international Tony Ward, former RTE broadcaster Michael Murphy and nine other prostate cancer survivors today to help the Marie Keating Foundation launch a new exhibition which aims to give hope and support to men affected by prostate cancer.

Although many problems related to the prostate gland produce symptoms of a urinary nature, it is nonetheless considered to be an organ of reproduction. There is a high incidence of enlarged prostate in men over the age of 50. The majority of prostate problems are due to a condition called benign prostatic hypertrophy, or BPH, caused by an elevation of the powerful androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and oestrogen in prostate tissue.

Saolta University Health Care Group in conjunction with the Irish Cancer Society, is holding a prostate cancer information evening in Galway on Thursday November 12. It is open to people from Donegal right down to Clare and throughout the Midlands.
