Connacht Enviro Containers had applied for permission to construct a commercial unit for sorting recyclable materials at the Bunree Industrial Estate.

A Fianna Fáil councillor was told he should leave the comedy to Brendan Grace by another councillor this week after he was accused of making a sexist comment in the chamber. Castlebar Municipal District Councillor Martin McLoughlin, who was co-opted on to the council to replaced Dep Lisa Chambers after she was elected to the Dáil, while paying tribute to outgoing Cathaoirleach Cllr Al McDonnell said that "your speeches reminded me of the mini-skirt of the '70's. Your speaches were short enough to be interesting and long enough to cover the essentials."

The fallout from the controversy over the filming of part of the new season of the Hardy Bucks TV show in Toomore graveyard continued this week, with one county councillor saying that he'd have shot at them if it had been done in his area, and another saying that he would have physically prevented them filming if he was in the area at the time.

The elected members of the Ballina Municipal District refused to throw their full backing behind the potential sale of 26.13 hectares of land at Tawnaghmore Upper Killala (the old Asahi plant site), to a northern Irish based company for the construction of an IT services centre on the site. The councillors were presented with an item at their monthly meeting this week to endorse the disposal of the land for a potential figure of €2,582,689.20 to Derry based company Atlantic Gateway Ltd, if after a six to 12 month period of a feasibility study by the potential purchaser it was satisfactory for their needs.

One hundred and fourteen estates have speed limits reduced to 30km per hour in Mayo

Mayo County Council this week introduced new bye-laws to reduce the speed limit in 114 estates throughout the county to 30km per hour, this new slew of estates follows a reduction in the speed limit in 99 estates in 2015, and the council will be considering a further list of estates for implementation of a similar speed limit later this year.
