The President Michael D Higgins will travel to Galway in September to launch a weekend of celebratory events to mark the 40th anniversary of Galway's twinning with Lorient. The French Ambassador to Ireland Jean-Pierre Thébault will also be in attendance on Friday September 18.
A community engagement workshop to discuss plans for the Easter Rising centenary celebrations will take place at the Galway City Museum this Thursday evening (June 4). A steering committee has been appointed by Galway City Council to oversee the celebrations in the city next year.
