Freaky arty Halloween party

ON SUNDAY at 8pm Galway Arts Centre will host a freaky fun night of Halloween hi-jinks. The evening will kick off with a psychic ice cream workshop by local artist Mitch Conlon followed by a dunking, drawing, wrapping and catching obstacle course that will see patrons battle it out for a monstrous prize. Galway city arts officer James C Harrold will lead an eerie tour of the building, unveiling the centre’s hidden history, formerly the residence of the legendary Lady Gregory.

Tulca Festival of Visual Arts reveals exciting line-up

THE TULCA Festival of Visual Arts 2011 kicks off on Friday next November 4. The festival will examine aspects of the recent fall-out in Ireland and internationally, by addressing artist responses to political, social, and economic collapse. Entitled ‘After the fall’ it will also consider re-imaginings of the future in the wake of these collapses. A range of well-known Irish artists will feature in this year’s programme, many of these artists engage with contentious issues in post-Celtic Tiger Ireland. Tulca runs until November 20 in galleries across Galway.

A brilliant return to Galway for My Brilliant Divorce

There will be a homecoming in more ways than one when Jasango Theatre present a new version of Geraldine Aron’s My Brilliant Divorce on Tuesday November 1 at The Town Hall. Jasango Theatre was founded in Galway in 2009 by Jasmin Finn and Angela Ryan; they have since gone on to make a name for themselves on the national touring circuit. Following great success with Bombshells - including a two-year tour of Ireland, a summer residency at Fota House, and an American tour culminating in awards for Best Play and Best Ensemble in the 2010 Bethlehem Press Awards - Jasango are on track for another hit with this wittily observant and achingly funny play.
