The Health Economics and Policy Analysis research group at NUI Galway will host a one day conference on obesity Friday, 17 January. Obesity is complex, interdisciplinary problem that involves genetics, physiology, the environment, psychology, and economics.

Young women who are planning a pregnancy and who currently have diabetes need to take special steps to protect their health and that of their baby. Andrew Murphy, Professor of General Practice at NUI Galway, and his SPHERE team were awarded both the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland Award for Best General Practice Paper, and the overall Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland Award for Best Research Paper published by an Irish doctor in 2011.

NUI Galway research students awarded health-related scholarships

Fifteen NUI Galway School of Medicine research students were recently awarded Summer Student Scholarships by the Health Research Board (HRB). The aim of the HRB Summer Student Scholarships is to encourage an interest in health research and to give students an opportunity to become familiar with the research process, research techniques and methodologies through conducting a summer project. The students will be supervised by academic and clinical staff at NUI Galway and Galway University Hospital and at the School Affiliated teaching Academies.
