What a week it has been! I don't think I've ever heard as many rumours about player injuries ahead of an All-Ireland final. The Kilkenny team returned to training last Monday night after their customary weekend away in Wexford.

Tipperary's emphatic semi-final victory over Waterford last Sunday guarantees us another mouth-watering All-Ireland final. Hurling fans worldwide will be looking forward to September 5 for Kilkenny v Tipp Part II. During the noughties it was Kilkenny and Cork who went head to head on a couple of occasions. The Cats are still going strong but the Rebels have passed the baton onto the Premier county. This is the first back to back final between these two counties. When you talk of sporting rivalries they simply don't come any greater than Kilkenny and Tipp. The colour, excitement and raw emotion of last year’s decider is a testament to this.

A huge crowd of supporters descended on Mooncoin on Sunday evening to see Waterford play Kilkenny in a senior hurling challenge match at the official opening of the club’s new sports complex and facilities.

Last weekend was once again a very busy one for Kilkenny hurling as round two of the St Canice’s Credit Union Senior Hurling and the Michael Lyng Intermediate Hurling League took place. Teams have two weeks to prepare for these encounters. For teams that had lost or performed below par in round one, this was their chance to redeem themselves and put the all important points on the board.

The Kilkenny club hurling season kicked off in earnest last weekend with a full round of St Canice’s Credit Union Senior and Michael Lyng Motors League games.

The GAA's decision to scrap the scoring difference in favour of the head to head format left the association with egg on its face last weekend, as all bar one of the last round league games ended up being nothing more than glorified challenge matches. The only game of any real importance was the relegation battle between Dublin and Limerick.
