Buccaneers RFC is currently enjoying 'heady heights' in the Energia All-Ireland League but the club proved it is equally successful off the playing fields when their ‘Business Networking Lunch’ attracted a full house to Athlone’s Sheraton Hotel.

Underdogs all the way, Oughterard defied the odds to become only the second club to win the All Ireland intermediate football trophy since neighbours Moycullen 12 years ago.

A new name will be engraved on the All-Ireland intermediate club football trophy after Oughterard achieved a superb win over Monaghan side Magheracloone at Croke Park on Saturday.

"Christmas comes every year, but to play in an All-Ireland semi-final for your club, more than likely will only happen once in your life. This is the chance of a lifetime," says a buoyant Tommy Finnerty, Oughterard intermediate football manager.

There is so much going on in the sporting world it's hard to keep up. The football championship is in full swing, the Euros are around the corner, the passing of Muhammad Ali has grabbed all the front and back pages and then there is the not so small matter of the Mayo hurling team's fantastic win in the Nicky Rackard Cup last Saturday evening in Croke Park. Things look very rosy in the Mayo GAA world and we are still only in the second week in June and yet we have two national titles in the bag.
