Ireland’s first 24 hour dog adoption event takes place on tomorrow Friday August 24 and Saturday August 25. Organised by Galway dog rescue charity MADRA, the event will take place from 8am to 8pm each day at the Trusty Pet Pals dog daycare centre in Briarhill.

North West SPCA, which is a registered charity based in Ballina, but which works throughout Mayo and the north west, is organising a Cruffs and Scruffs Dog Show and Summer Fete. The event will take place on Sunday August 26 from 12 noon to 6pm, at Rehins, Ballina, close to Hotel Ballina.

Dogs do not clean up after themselves so it is up to their owners to clean up after their pets, according to Labour city councillor Niall McNelis.

Mayo SPCA are looking for caring homes for their rescued animals, some of which are shown here but others can be seen on their web site www.mayospca.com. Now in the fifth year running, dog food brand Pedigree has launched its annual adoption drive. The Pedigree Adoption Drive continues to raise awareness of animal welfare and encourages Irish dog lovers to adopt a dog from their local shelter or welfare organisation. For every pack of Pedigree dog food bought, during the Pedigree Adoption Drive, a donation from Pedigree will be given to help Irish dogs. In Ireland, averages of 44 dogs are abandoned every single day.

Forever Pets Expo, in association with the MSPCA Dog Show, will bring tail wagging fun to the centre stage at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on Sunday July 1 for the Forever Pets Expo, which promises to be a great day for the whole family including your dog.

Dog lovers will descend on the Black Box in Galway this weekend for Ireland’s only dog expo, in aid of Connemara-based rescue charity MADRA.

Dog littering is a county-wide problem which needs to be addressed both by making bins available and through education and enforcement, according to councillors who discussed the problem this week.
