Neighbours of a residence where dogs are bred and kept in kennels are bringing action against the owner of the home and also against the person who is breeding the dogs.

It will be lonely this Christmas for a number of dogs in the Galway area as the Connemara-based charity MADRA struggles to contend with the sudden increase of abandoned dogs being reported in the area. Kennel vacancies and other resources are being stretched at the charity and the number of calls being received by MADRA about neglected dogs is now averaging at 50 per day.

The ASPCA are seeking volunteers for their street collection which takes place on Friday November 30 and Saturday December 1 from 10am to 6pm each day in Athlone. Volunteers are needed for both days, with all money raised going directly to helping animals.

A family open day in aid of Dogs Trust will be held at Galway’s Skoda dealership, Monaghan & Sons, on Saturday (November 17).

A dog adoption day will take place this weekend at Trusty Pet Pals dog day care centre in Briarhill Business Park. The event, organised by MADRA Mutts Anonymous Dog Rescue and Adoption, will take place on Saturday from 11am to 4pm.
