New playground floodlights helps curb anti-social behaviour

New floodlighting installed at the playground in Coilte and Sruthan Mhuirlinne, near Merlin Castle, had a positive reception by local residents as it has done much to curb anti-social behaviour. However, Independent councillor Terry O’Flaherty has warned that it is imperative to maintain frequent Garda patrols.

Funding of €10,000 for CCTV cameras in Walter Macken, Suan, and Whitehall

CCTV camera systems are to be installed in Walter Macken Place in Mervue and Suan apartments in Sandyvale, Headford Road, while the existing camera in Whitehall in the city centre is to be upgraded following the provision of €10,000 in the Galway City Council’s 2014 Budget.

Skeleton of horse found near playground

The skeleton of a horse showing signs that the animal had been burnt while still alive was discovered near a playground during the summer, according to city councillor Terry O’Flaherty who along with fellow members of the Galway City Joint Policing Committee is calling for education initiatives to be set up and for gardai to be given more powers to react to reports of cruelty.
