Galway dog rescue charity MADRA has been forced to close its doors for the month of November as the number of stray and unwanted dogs in county Galway reaches an all-time high.

On Tuesday evening, as I left the office and was making my way to the car, I spotted a couple. Obviously tourists because they were holding hands with that foreign great hair look about them, with colourful jackets and a bearing that made them stand apart from the Irish, but blend in with the hundreds of visitors on the street at that time.

The Sports Hall at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) on the Dublin Road will provide the venue for the MADRA dog adoption day this Saturday, October 4, from 12 – 4pm.

Local dog rescue charity MADRA will hold a Puppy Adoption Day at its charity shop in An Fiontarlann, Westside this Sunday, June 8 from 12 noon to 4pm.

A dog adoption day will take place at Trusty Pet Pals dog day care centre in Briarhill Business Park on Saturday, April 12, from 12 to 4pm.
