St Joseph's Primary School Ballinrobe has been selected as one of five schools in Ireland - and one of only 60 schools across 33 countries - to receive sponsorship from Google for this year’s Europe Code Week 2017.

Ballinrobe road race coming up

People living in the south Mayo and north Galway can look forward to a festival of cycling on local roads on Saturday, and Sunday, August 9 and 10. The two days of racing make up the annual Ballinrobe two-day road race which attracts cyclists from all over Ireland. “This will be a huge event with up to 120 riders, and in the past locals have been able to enjoy some great racing in the region,” said a spokesperson for organisers Western Lakes CC.

The Friends of Fr Kevin Doheny, in conjunction with Vita, recently held a sponsored walk to raise funds and awareness for their twinning projects with Chencha, in Arba Minch, Ethiopia. The walk was from different points, namely Ballyouskill, Ballyragget, Castlecomer and Ballinakill.

Election poster defacement reaches Baghdad proportions

Across Mayo political posters have been defaced and vandalised, as is common with most political campaigns. But people would be forgiven for thinking they had stepped into Baghdad this week due to the vicious and sinister element which has developed in south Mayo where one sitting councillor’s poster was shot at. This turn of events is one step too far and goes beyond painting glasses and moustaches on candidates’ faces.
