€2.8m for Castlebar and Ballina projects

The Border, Midland, and Western Regional Assembly has announced the allocation of €2.8m to the linked Mayo hub towns of Ballina and Castlebar under the European Regional Development Fund. In Ballina this will fund the refurbishment of Pearse Street along with the addition of a link road to Market Square and the refurbishment of a former bank on Pearse Street to house the Jackie Clarke Library and Archives.

On Tuesday December 1, Ballina Arts Centre will host Oska Bright: On the road. This unique film event is brought to Mayo by the Arts and Disability Networking Partnership an initiative of The Arts Council, Arts and Disability Ireland and Mayo County Council Arts Office.

Ballina mayor calls councillor a ‘spoilt child’

Mayor of Ballina Town Council, Councillor Mary Kelly, called Cllr Michelle Mulherin a “spoilt child” during the town’s reconvened monthly meeting following Cllr Mulherin’s request that the minutes from the previous meeting be amended. Cllr Mulherin claimed that she did not say that the town clerk had a hidden agenda based on pressure from Fianna Fáil.

Additional €2.5m secured for Mayo Rural Water Programme

Ballina-based Minister for Labour Affairs Dara Calleary has confirmed that an additional €2.5 million has been made available to Mayo County Council under the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government’s Rural Water Programme.

Ballina TC approve FAI grant for one year and mayor’s trip to US

Ballina Town Council has agreed to fund its share of an agreement among the three town councils in the county and Mayo County Council for the FAI development officer for the next year to the sum of €7,500.

Ballina mayor appointed to RAPID implementation team as programme gets funding boost

Ballina will get a €250,000 boost for RAPID prorgrammes following an annoucement this week by Minister for Community, Rural and Gaelacht affairs Éamon Ó Cuív. The funding is Ballina’s share in one-off funding announced for the five new towns which were given RAPID status this year. The towns will share in €1.25 million from the Dormant Accounts Fund. The funding will be drawn down over two years and will be used for stand alone projects such as playgrounds, improving disabled and community facilities, and enducation and environmental improvments.
