Retailers from all over Ireland gathered at the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, for the prestigious awards ceremony run by BWG Foods, owner and operator of the Mace brand in Ireland. The Mace Excellence Awards are only given to Mace stores that pass a gruelling year-long inspection, including unannounced audits and visits from mystery shoppers. Five Mayo stores were given Mace Excellence Awards. The Mace Excellence Awards are now in their 11th year. The Mayo winners presented at this year’s awards ceremony were Mannion’s Mace Charlestown, Delaney’s Mace Castlebar, Delaney’s Maxol Mace Westport, Fallon’s Mace Ballinrobe, and Hunt’s Mace Claremorris.

Mayo retailers hear of predicted growth this year

Almost half of Eurospar retailers in Ireland are predicting growth in 2014, with two-thirds planning additional investment in their stores – that is according to the findings of a retailer survey released by operators of the brand BWG Foods to coincide with the EUROSPAR Conference which took place in Dublin’s Marker Hotel last week. Among the delegates at the conference was Derek Kennedy from Eurospar Swinford.

An Taoiseach opens Value Centre Castlebar following €2m rebuild

Value Centre Castlebar was officially reopened by the Taoiseach earlier this week, just over a year after a fire at the cash and carry temporarily closed its doors. Owners and operators BWG Foods spent €2 million on a massive refurbishment of the site and kept all staff jobs open, moving workers to other Value Centres in the area until Value Centre Castlebar was ready to welcome them back. All 14 employees are now back in work and the cash and carry has resumed full service to businesses across the west of Ireland.

Swinford Eurospar manager receives national recognition

Swinford Eurospar manager Anne Reynolds has been named as News Department Manager of the Year 2013, by independent trade magazine Shelflife as part of the Grocery Retail Awards in Management (GRAM) awards. Ms Reynolds was recognised among a number of retail managers across the country as being a standout leader within the Irish retail grocery industry. The GRAMs, now in its eighth year, is the first and only national management award scheme exclusively devoted to recognising the best managers in the Irish retail, wholesale and off-licence sectors.

A number of leading SPAR retailers from across the country including Mayo gathered at Killashee House in County Kildare recently for the brand’s annual 5 Star Awards ceremony, run by BWG Foods (owners and operators of the SPAR brand in Ireland) in association with the Excellence Ireland Quality Association (EIQA).
