After a break last year due to Covid restrictions, Galway City Council is now taking entries for the Galway City Tidy Towns and Garden Competition 2021. Entrants must be based in Galway City and can enter across categories such as ‘Best Front Garden’, ‘Best Residential Estate’, ‘Best Shop-front’, ‘Best Community Project’ and ‘Best School’.

Sports Partnership launches new action plan

Mayo Sports Partnership this week launched its new Strategy and Action Plan 2017-2021, the launch took place in Ballinrobe Golf Club and was carried out by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, and Caitheoirleach of Mayo County Council Cllr Richard Finn. Following the successful delivery of its previous two plans 2006 – 2010 and 2010 – 2014 the partnership plans to further deliver on its commitment to the people of Mayo, greater participation in recreational sport by all.

Fine Gael Mayo senator, and Seanad spokesperson on agriculture, food and the marine, Michelle Mulherin, has asked that Swinford be included in Action Plan for Rural Development. This week, Senator Mulherin said: “I have asked Minister Humphreys to include Swinford as a pilot project town for the action plan. I think the town would be an ideal case to implement a pilot project and develop a worthwhile scheme for all rural market towns.
