On May 25 we will be asked to completely remove the right to life of babies in the womb from the Irish Constitution. Why? To allow the Government to introduce abortion on demand into Irish hospitals and GP clinics. The Government want to legalise unrestricted abortion in the first three months of pregnancy and abortion up to six months on grounds including “mental health”, which in Britain means abortion on demand. Abortion will be allowed up to birth if the baby has a life limiting condition.

No parent should have to say “goodbye” to their baby before they get the opportunity to say “hello.”

At the heart of the current debate about removing the right to life of the unborn child from the Constitution is a question about what kind of society we want to be. We do not have to look far in order to see the country where they have long ago removed the right to life for the unborn child. Our nearest neighbours in Britain have made that mistake, and we are being asked to copy them.

More than 100 women gave Galway addresses when accessing an abortion in the UK in 2016. At least 9 women travelled each month from Galway to the United Kingdom in order to access abortion services.

An event to honour and celebrate the lives of babies who were lost through miscarriage will take place this Sunday May 28.
