Rush hour traffic prevents residents leaving estates

Residents of Ardilaun Green and Ardilaun Heights are calling for a roundabout or traffic lights to be installed at the junction between their estates and the C-Link Road, due to the difficulty they experience exiting during peak traffic times.

Chairperson of the Ardilaun Green and Ardilaun Heights Residents’ Association, Jane Slevin, says that during morning and evening rush hours, cars are often backed up in the estates as they attempt to exit onto the C-Link.

“There are approximately 300 houses between these two estates, and everyone is trying to leave between 8am and 9.15am to bring kids to school or go to work. It is the same if you want to leave in the evening between 4pm and 5.30pm, especially with so many trucks using the C-Link Road,” Ms Slevin told the Advertiser.

“It would be a great advantage if we had a roundabout or lights, particularly to people with children. If even half the houses in Ardilaun Heights and Green have someone leaving at rush hour, cars are backed up around the corners in the estates.”

Chairman of Mullingar West Community Council, Fergal Hingerty, said a number of concerned residents have contacted him on this matter.

“Mullingar West Community Council fully supports the residents association in its efforts to secure a roundabout at the traffic lights. Due to the huge volume of traffic it is very difficult for anyone to exit in the morning.

“There is a serious safety concern at the exit, and there have been many accidents at the junction, including one last year when the fence was breached.”
