KCI Manufacturing facility wins CPD Employer of the Year Award

The KCI Manufacturing facility in Athlone has won the Continuing Professional Development (CPD ) Employer of the Year Award at the annual Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards.

The facility won their award for its strategy to tackle increased manufacturing demand. The facility recently faced an unexpected volume of orders due to a 300 per cent increase in US demand for certain therapy devices, driven by a changing commercial environment. To enhance supply chain to meet demand, a new scheduling model was implemented to allow shipment of completed products within 48 hours.

The KCI manufacturing CPD strategy has allowed the company to respond successfully to unplanned challenges while increasing employee knowledge. Speaking at the awards ceremony, Caroline Spillane, Engineers Ireland director general, said: “The Athlone winners exhibit the highest standards of engineering excellence and innovation and I offer my congratulations to KCI Manufacturing.

“All the winners this evening, and indeed the full gamut of entries across the various categories, showcase the diverse nature of contemporary engineering in what is our sixth awards year and the highest number of submissions to date from all across Ireland. An event like tonight really highlights the creativity, leadership, and diversity in Irish engineering today.”

The winners were announced in a ceremony at the InterContinental Hotel in Dublin.
