Minister for Sport to open AIT training centre

The Minister of State for Sport, Michael Ring, will officially open the gym and high performance training centre at the AIT International Arena this Thursday, November 26.

The facility has received widespread acclaim since opening to the public in September. The gym boasts more than 70 diverse workout stations, including cardio machines, a wide range of both plate-loaded and traditional strength equipment, an extensive weight area, as well as Watt Bikes, Keiser M3, Body Bike Connect, and Airdyne.

In October, AIT was awarded €188,000 in funding under the Sports Capital Programme 2015, which is being used to purchase state-of-the-art equipment including cryopods, an AlterG treadmill, watt bikes, infrared saunas, timing gates and testing equipment, and Woodway performance treadmills. AIT commercial manager, Paul Coburn, said: “The official opening of the gym and the high performance training centre is an important marker in the history of the International Arena.

“The response from students, staff, the general public, as well as elite sports people has been hugely encouraging, and we are committed to continuing to provide the very best service to our customers.”
