Locals urged to make most of Heritage Week

Go local during Heritage Week and experience the hidden gems Westmeath has to offer, advises local TD, Willie Penrose.

Running from August 23-31, Heritage Week offers plenty of intrigue to keep inquisitive minds busy. “Dozens of events are taking place across Westmeath to celebrate Heritage Week. Local attractions such as Athlone Castle, the Hill of Uisneach and tours of Old Mullingar, and many more events, are expected to attract crowds of people. I would especially urge families to avail of the free events,” said Deputy Penrose.

“While it’s no wonder that Ireland continues to attract a growing number of foreign visitors, sometimes we can be slow to appreciate the beauty on our own doorsteps. Heritage Week serves as a timely reminder of the many fantastic attractions which the county holds, and is a great chance to get out and enjoy it,” he added.
