Mullingar citizens offer solidarity with the guardians of their peace

A book of condolence has been opened in the public office of Mullingar Garda Station at the top of Bishopsgate Street to allow the public offer their support to local officers in the wake of the murder of their colleague in Louth.

Several Mullingar-based members of An Garda Siochána travelled to Dundalk, Co Louth on Wednesday (January 30 ) to pay their respects to slain comrade, Detective Garda Adrian Donohue.

The 41-year-old father of two was shot dead last Friday night by a murdering gang of thieves outside the Lordship Credit Union in Kentstown, Co Louth as he went with a colleague to escort the day’s takings to a more secure location.

“The sympathy and support from the local people in Mullingar has been outstanding, and Mullingar Gardaí are very grateful to the people who visited the station to express their sympathy and sign the book of condolences,” said Sergeant Tony Quinn of the community policing unit, Mullingar.

Gardaí opened the book due to the demand from the public who were outraged at the circumstances causing the death of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, and the book will be open until Sunday, February 3.
