The Connacht Junior League mostly has this weekend off, and after five games Ballina are out on top of the table with five wins from five games. Last weekend they picked up a bonus point win on the road against NUIG heading home 48-13 winners against the students who are sitting bottom of the table without a victory to their name so far.

Ballina are leading the way at the top of Division 1A of the Connacht Junior League after three rounds of games, with three wins from three, picking up two bonus points along the way. So far they have seen off the challenge of Galwegians 32-5, Westport in the local derby 14-9 on the road, and then hammered Buccaneers 41-0 in Athlone in their third game. In those three games Ballina have run in 10 tries, while only once has a side crossed the whitewash against them

Champions Cup returns to the Sportsground

Bona fide Champions Cup team Connacht will face four-times European champions Toulouse on Saturday (5.30pm) to open their 2016/17 European campaign. The Sportsground will boast a seasonal capacity crowd of 8,057 with extra terracing erected at pitch ends to ensure an electric atmosphere for what is a defining match in Connacht's long history.

Connacht's Eric Elwood and former player Conor McPhillips will have new roles in Pat Lam's coaching team next season. Elwood will take over as kicking coach on an advisory basis, along side his current role as domestic games manager, while McPhillips, who was brought into the coaching team last season as an assistant attack coach to Pat Lam, has been appointed as Connacht's new backs coach following the departure of Kiwi Andre Bell to his homeland.
