Blood, sweat, and tears (of laughter mainly). Who’d have thought it, two same party town councillors, bare chested and pumped up in a boxing ring going hell for leather.
No it wasn’t a Dáil debate, or even a Mayo County Council meeting, but you could be forgiven for thinking so. And it wasn’t an episode of the Frontline or Tonight with Vincent Browne either, although both these shows could do with a boxing ring and referee on some occasions.
It will be back to donkeys and carts in Ballina and north Mayo given the decision by An Bord Pleanála last week to refuse permission for the N26 Ballina to Bohola road.
Never has a decision brought so many authorities, lobby groups, and individuals together in protest.
The fact that only 30 odd people, including seven or eight local councillors, turned up to the head shop protest last week raises some important questions.
One would have to wonder do the local politicians actually have a mandate from the public to carry out these protests or were the public frightened of being associated with the march last Wednesday.
