Barrett welcomes crossings at St Patrick's boys school

Cllr Harry Barrett has welcomed the provision of pedestrian crossings for the children of St Patrick's Boys' National School, Castlebar. According to Cllr Barrett, work on the crossings is to begin in the coming weeks and will be completed before the children return to school.

Accident blackspot identified near Newport Road cemetery

Mayor of Castlebar and Fine Gael town councillor Ger Deere is calling on Mayo County Council to repair a section of Newport Road which has seen numerous traffic accidents in the recent past. The section of road in question is quite close to the entrance to the new cemetery where vehicles appear to lose control. A number of road traffic collisions have taken place at the location over the past number of months, with the most recent occurring last weekend. Local residents confirmed to Cllr Deere that a number of other accidents had occurred at the location in recent months.

Bank of Ireland pulls Station Road ATM in Castlebar

The Bank of Ireland has pulled the ATM service from one of the busiest shops in Castlebar this week. The ATM, which was located outside of the Londis supermarket on Station Road, was removed earlier in the week against the wishes of the proprietor of the supermarket, Seamus McCafferty.
