A Balla man who when he drove without insurance, tax, or driving licence, crashed into the back of a stationary car stopped at traffic lights and causing more than €4,000 worth of damage, was this week convicted of careless driving.

Well the volcanic ash grounded the planes and people got stuck in places all over the globe. Why they couldn’t have got a few helicopters to stretch a big tarpaulin over the smoke plume and stop the ash going high up into the atmosphere and disrupting the planes I don’t know. Sometimes I wonder if there’s anyone with a bit of common sense in charge. From the thousands of passengers who got stranded it just shows the amount of people that are jettin’ around the world every day. What in the name of God is bringing them all over the place?

IWAK flights cancelled as volcanic ash clouded UK and Irish airspace

There was widespread disruption to flights into and out of Ireland West Airport Knock yesterday (Thursday) as a result of a cloud of ash caused by a volcanic eruption in Iceland and the Irish Aviation Authority said restrictions in Irish airspace would continue until 10am today (Friday) at the earliest.

Harsh reality of direct provision accommodation laid out in report

The harsh reality of life for more than 300 asylum seekers and refugees who live in direct provision accommodation in Mayo was laid bare this week. GMIT Castlebar hosted a launch for the “One size doesn’t fit all” report published by the Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC) , in association with Mayo Intercultural Association. The report marks the 10th anniversary of direct provision accommodation in Ireland. Currently there are 315 people living in Ballyhaunis in direct provision accommodation, there were centres in both Kiltimagh and Cong previously providing accommodation but have since been closed.
