Credit Review Office to aid small and medium businesses

Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny has welcomed the establishment of the Credit Review Office to aid small and medium enterprises such as farmers and retailers. Businesses that have had their loan requests refused, credit refused, or credit facilities withdrawn can make an application to the Credit Review Office which will undertake an impartial review of applications. However, this is dependent on the applicant having previously gone through the financial institutions’ own internal appeals process.

Credit unions could get Mayo back to work

Sinn Féin councillor Therese Ruane has called on Mayo County Enterprise Board to meet with Credit Unions across the county to initiate a small business loan scheme. Cllr Ruane believes that such a scheme would save dozens of small businesses and hundreds of jobs across Mayo.

“The vast majority of small businesses that I have met with are struggling with credit flow and this has caused many to fold despite being profitable. While the Government are prepared to bail out the banks, there is no such bail out for small enterprises that are the lifeblood of the economy. A small-business loan scheme, operated through Credit Unions, could help keep these businesses afloat and ensure that hundreds of jobs are secured in Mayo.”

In the Connacht Regional Irish Restaurant of the Year Awards Knockranny House Hotel, Westport claimed two awards: Seamus Commons, for best chef, and best hotel restaurant award in Mayo.

Mayo software company in Bright Ideas Challenge final

Eventovate, a Ballina based software company, was one of three finalists in Bank of Ireland's Bright Ideas Challenge. The national final of the competition was held on March 5 in the House of Lords, College Green, in Dublin. Eventovate enables hotels to offer additional added value services to customers booking events and conferences; while also allowing them to improve the management, booking, and delivery of the events. The company was established in 2008 by brothers Jonathan and Jason Ruane.
