Conor takes silver in indoors

The Connacht Indoor Championships took place at Athlone AIT Arena last weekend.

Mayo AC were represented by Ballina-based member Conor Naylor who competed in two races – the senior 60m and 200m.

Both races had two heats with five in each, and finishing times deciding the medals. Conor finished first in heat two of the 60m in 7.37. In heat one Aaron Cadden (Sligo AC ) won in 7.19. Meaning that Conor won silver with the second best overall time.

It was a similar story in the 200m, both athletes ran in the faster heat two which was won by Aaron in 22.59, with Conor in silver 24.12.It was a very impressive performance by Conor. Mayo AC are delighted to see the Naylor name continue to make athletics headlines in the West.

Closer to home in the cold but dry environs of Derrywash the annual local Derrywash NS 6k run took place on Sunday morning. There was more success for Mayo AC. Anto Devaney was first home in 23:30 while Angela McVann was first woman finisher. Brendan Murphy was second behind Anto in 23.37.

Running out of the woods

On a beautiful day in Tourmakeady the annual ‘Out of the Woods’ 8k took place recently. It’s a challenging race over a loop course through the hills above the Glensaul river, some on road and some on fire trails. Mayo AC athlete sdominated the prizewinners list, with John Byrne and Lynda Hession the men’s and women’s race winners respectively and Paula Donnellan finishing in second place in the women’s event.

Other Mayo AC among the 101 finishers were, Tony O’Malley, James Malone, Noel Feeney, Jimmy Feeney, Elaine Hession and Ann McDonnel. The Tourmakeady 8k was a not-for-profit event to raise funds for Community Developments. Full results are at www.mayoac.com
