The stage is set for the much anticipated St Colman's College annual transition year musical.
This year the transition year boys collaborate with the transition year girls of Mount St Michael, performing the world renowned musical The Wizard of Oz, based on the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum and the 1939 film version written by Noel Langley, Florence Ryerson, and Edgar Allan Woolf.
The stage adaptation incorporates the songs we know and love. This beloved tale, in which a Kansas farm girl travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home, has been entertaining audiences for generations.
After a tornado whisks away young Dorothy (Susan Flynn ) to the magical land of Oz, she starts her quest to find the mighty Wizard of Oz (Sean Halligan ) who has the power to send her home.
Along the way she meets a Scarecrow (Christopher Reaney ), a Tin Woodsman (Domhnall Roe ), and a Cowardly Lion (Michael McNamara ) who help her on her journey. Go to the Town Hall Claremorris next Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday night to find out how Dorothy gets on in her quest.
The students have been working tirelessly over the last few weeks to make sure this a memorable occasion. As they move down to the town hall this week to finalise their rehearsals, the excitement is clear.
The TY students from both schools hope that everyone can attend this magical, fun filled, show. An extravaganza of music, song, and dance is anticipated. The musical runs from Wednesday, February 21, to Friday, February 23, starting at 8pm each night. Doors open at 7pm. There will be a matinee for national schools on Wednesday at 11am.
