Top marks for Mayo tourist hotspots

Three Mayo tourist venues were recognised at a prestigious tourism awards ceremony this week.

The 28th Annual CIE Tours International Awards of Excellence took place in the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin on Monday, where 84 winners were presented with their awards. The awards were decided by customer feedback from 30,000 customer surveys.

Two hotels in Mayo were recognised with Merit Awards for Connacht, they were Ashford Castle in Cong and the Castlecourt Hotel. Also winning a provincial merit award was Gleen Keen Farm in Louisburgh in the Best Visit category.

Elizabeth Crabill, chief executive, CIE Tours International, told the gathering that 2017 was another excellent year with revenues exceeding €110 million and more than 400,000 bed nights booked throughout Ireland.

“We are delighted with our success, which owes so much to the excellent service provided by hundreds of service providers around the country. Our honourees are exemplary contributors to our 94.6 per cent guest satisfaction rate, and they all deserve recognition for the excellent roles they play in welcoming visitors to Ireland and ensuring they have a memorable experience."
