Ring welcomes resolution of traffic calming measures in Balla

Michael Ring TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, has commended the residents of Balla and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII ) for agreeing traffic calming measures in order to make Balla a safer place.

Minister Ring said, "It has been agreed to introduce an 80 km/h speed limit zone on the approach to Balla from Claremorris. This will be put in place for a distance of between 1,000 metres and 1,500 metres on the approach to the 50 km/h zone which begins on the outskirts of the town. The exact length will be agreed with engineering and road safety staff in Mayo County Council.

“I am hopeful that these traffic calming measures will make Balla a safer place in which to live and work. I commend the local community and TII for the cooperative and practical approach they have taken in relation to this matter.

“Crucially, I urge all motorists to pay heed to these new speed limits once they are introduced. We depend on them in order to make this a success. I note that the TII is committing to keep the matter at Ardboley under review on an ongoing basis, and the issue can be revisited if required.”
