No rest for Moy Davitts as Glaveys come calling

The heart-rates have probably only got back to normal for Moy Davitts' supporters following last Saturday nights amazing come from behind injury time victory in the Mayo Intermediate Football Championship final. Trailing by three points in injury time, having led by five at the turnaround and a man up, they had only managed to score a single point in the entire 30 minutes of normal play in the second half - but somehow they managed to win the game in a amazing four minutes of action. James Mulderrig hammered home a thunderbolt of a goal from 20 yards out, to level it up - it was that type of shot that once it left his boot you could see it was only going to end up in one place and that was followed by a floating effort from Séan Kelly which seemed to just about make it over crossbar.

But there has not been much time for celebration for the men from Foxford, Straide and Bohola as they face into a quick turnaround to take on Roscommon champions Michael Glaveys this Sunday in the Connacht semifinal. It was the second time Glavey's claimed the middle tier title in Roscommon in three years. The key men for them in their victory were Conor Hussey, Gary Patterson, Caoileann Fitzmaurice, Stephen Comer, Andy Glennon, and Cathal Heneghan, and Moy Davitts will need to be on their toes against the Roscommon champions.

For Moy Davitts, it has all go in recent weeks and while there were some much deserved celebrations last weekend, they will have seen from last year's Mayo intermediate champions Westport - that a county title can be just the stepping stone to a far bigger adventure in the next few months. Pat Clarke's men dug it out when it mattered most last weekend and they have plenty of quality in their ranks - in the middle of the park Mulderrig and Padraig Ruane are a fine pairing, while their full forward line of Anthony Jordan, Brian Heneghan, and Brian Reape can cause serious damage at this level. At the back goalkeeper and captain Christopher McGlynn is a fine keeper while Cormac Healy, Oisin McHugh, and Mark Regan are all quality defenders. The quick turnaround from the county final could be tricky for Moy Davitts, but they have the ability and quality to get over the line in this one.
