Clubs bask in summer sun

Balla

Mark Killeen with a round of 52 was the gents' winner of last weekend's strokeplay competition. He finished five strokes ahead of Pat Kilgallon in second place. Ronan Murphy won the gross prize, with Richie Murphy finishing in third. The ladies' strokeplay competition was claimed by Patricia Conwell who had a round of 54, she finished one stroke in front of Mary Gillard in second place, with Mary B O'Donnell coming home in third place and Geraldine O'Malley winning the gross prize. The timesheets for the Junior and Senior Scratch Cup, the Broderick Cup and the O’Brien Cup are on the notice board. Please fill in your name if you are interested in participating in all or any of these cup competitions before May 21.

Ballyhaunis

Fiona Prenty was the winner of the ladies' competition last weekend with a round of 69, she finished just one stroke in front of Anne Freely in second place, with Norrie Dillon finishing in third spot. The gents' section was won by Rory O'Connor who had round of 59, he finished four strokes ahead of Tony Grenahan in second place, with Shane Buckley taking the gents' gross prize.

Ballina

The gents' competition last weekend was won by Bernie Lawrence who had score of 38pts, his back nine play saw him edge out Jonathan Doherty into second place, with John Doherty coming home in third place on 37pts.

Ballinrobe

Justin Keady with a round of 69 was the winner of the gents' medal competition last weekend in Ballinrobe, second place was taken by Eddie Killeen, with Shane McGrath winning the gross prize. The category winners were Christopher Mellott and Richard Dooley, and Charlie O'Sullivan won the back nine prize. The ladies' Sunday competition was won by Connie Darcy with a score of 40pts, the category prizes were claimed by Helen Healy, Breege Costello, Breda Keane. The front nine win went to Terry Mullan with Carmel Sweeney winning the back nine.

Castlebar

The gents' weekend competition was won by Tom Martyn with a score of 43pts, the category prizes were taken home by Eamon Byrne, Mick Kilcourse, and James Rocke, while Alex Behan won the student/junior section. The ladies' competition was won by Cathy Craughwell with a score of 43pts, she finished ahead of Margaret Naughton in second with Nuala McGowan in third place.

Claremorris

Pat Burke was the winner of the gents' competition with a score of 39pts, the category winners were Declan Lambe, Ronan Gurren, Declan Hession, and Kevin McCarthy. The ladies' competition was won by Eileen Connolly with a score of 30pts and the ladies' nine-hole competition was claimed by Eileen Mulderrig.

Mulranny

Scoring and the weather were sizzling at Mulranny at the weekend’s stroke competition. First prize in the gents' competition was won, in fine style, by Tom Duffy with a fantastic 63. Club Captain, John McNamara had to settle for second place with a 65 which would normally win most weekends. Rod Wood continued to shine with a 67 to take third place, while Fergus Rothwell won the gross with a 76.

Rod Wood and Saskia Eland will represent Mulranny in the Western Region 9 Hole “Road to Royal Birkdale” qualifier to be played at Tubbercurry on Friday, June 16. Wood won the gents' competition with 23pts from Vinnie Gannon on 21pts, while Eland came out on top as the leading lady with 22pts, with Maeve Nevin as runner-up on 20pts.

Swinford

In the Ormsby Cup last weekend, Ronan Monaghan was with the winner with a score of 39pts, he finished to points in front Matt Duggan in second place, with Tony Mulligan finishing in third place on the day.

Westport

The team fundraising competition was won by the foursome of Hugh Golden, Jim Keane, Jim Goggins, and John Kavanagh with a score of 55.8. Second place went to the team of Liam Gibbons, Pat Flemming, Mick Loughrey, and Tom Holland who finished with a score of 58.6.
