A novel fundraiser for Mayo Cancer Support will see Croagh Patrick turn pink on Saturday, April 8.

The Croagh Patrick Pink Link Challenge will take place on Saturday, April 8. The main aim of this event is to form a human link from the bottom to the top of Croagh Patrick to raise awareness of cancer but also to symbolize solidarity for all the people and families affected by a cancer diagnosis. The chain will take approximately 3,000-4,000 people to be successful and anyone can take part and wear something pink to show support. The challenge is based on four different levels which makes it suitable for people of all fitness levels to take part.

Registration for the event costs €15 and the proceeds of this will go directly to Mayo Cancer Support which offers support to people affected by cancer throughout Mayo by providing a range of services such as professional counselling, therapies such as massage, reflexology, bio-energy, classes such as stress management, tai-chi, mindfulness, creative writing, art therapy, and a range of support groups.

The main cancer support centre is based in Rock Rose House, Castlebar, with an outreach service in the Family Resource Centre in Ballina. The funds from the event will ensure the continuation of the provision of services as well as development to meet the needs of people affected by cancer. All the services are provided free of charge to people affected by cancer, their families and friends. Ninety per cent of funding relies on fundraising and the goodwill and generosity of the public, and any money raised goes directly into the services provided by Mayo Cancer Support, so this event is important to ensure it is able to meet the growing demand for services.

There is also opportunity for participants to raise money for other charities of their choice by obtaining sponsorship cards or setting up a fundraising page for the challenge. Pariticipants can register online via www.pinklinkmountainchallenge.ie or for group registration forms contact Trisha on (087 ) 9246875.
