Mayo choirs shine in National Concert Hall

Mayo was well represented in the National Concert Hall on Saturday last February 4, when the multi-award winning choirs Cór Mhaigh Eo, Ballina Chamber Choir and soprano Anne-Marie Gibbons joined forces with the RTE Concert Orchestra and Dun Laoghaire Choral Society, to perform Karl Jenkins epic masterpiece, The Armed Man.

This group previously performed this work last May in Knock Basilica as part of the Mayo International Choral Festival, and were delighted to have the opportunity to perform it again in the premiere classical music venue in the country. The work was conducted by musical maestro David Brophy, well known throughout Ireland.

It was an unforgettable experience for all who travelled from Mayo for the performance; both for the members of the choirs involved and for members of the audience with Mayo connections, to which David gave a special welcome at the beginning of the concert.

Both choirs would like to express their thanks to their conductors, Brian Lennon (Cór Mhaigh Eo ) and Niamh O’Kelly (Ballina Chamber Choir ) and also to Anne-Marie Gibbons for making this concert possible. It was truly an amazing night of choral music. Maigh eo abú!
