Mayo coffee drinkers urged to support Fairtrade

During Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs until March 8, Bewley’s master coffee roaster Paul O’Toole said that “Mayo coffee drinkers can make a real difference for communities in developing nations if they choose coffees that are Fairtrade certified, with Westport and Castlebar already ahead of many other cities and towns throughout Ireland as they have designated Fairtrade status.”

“The simplest thing for people to do is to ask for Fairtrade coffee or look out for the Fairtrade Mark in local cafés and shops throughout Mayo. That thought alone could make a world of difference for small farmers in countries like Nicaragua,” said O’Toole.

Bewley's has launched Facebook and Twitter pages concentrating on the company’s Fairtrade coffee buying activities in Nicaragua. Readers can visit the company’s Fairtrade Facebook page at www.companies.to/bewleys/ or by searching for Bewley’s Facebook on Google.
