LEO Office fully functioning but more funding needed

It is business as usual for the Local Enterprise Office in Mayo was the message from the chief executive of Mayo County Council this week following a query from Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne at Monday's meeting of Mayo County Council. Cllr Kilcoyne asked at the meeting: "Is the LEO Office out of money? I read reports it had and I'd like you to just confirm if it is or isn't."

Peter Hynes, chief executive of Mayo County Council responded saying: "No, it hasn't run out of money. There is an ongoing situation with the LEO where that we allocate in anticipation of some additional funding at the end of the year. I don't want to get into the numbers but we are in that situation and we are pressing and the message that should go out, it's not that we've run out of money it's that the LEO is working very efficiently. There are a lot of projects in the pipeline and we need more money piped into the LEO system from central government. We need a lot more money, they have built a very good system and a lot of good people are going through a lot of good entrepreneurs and we need to be in a position to support them and we need more money."
