1916 drama Rebel Rebel at the Linenhall

Robbie O’Connor and Aisling O’Mara present an acclaimed dramatisation of the beginnings of the Easter Rising in Rebel Rebel at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday April 25.

Derived from real-life testimonies, Rebel Rebel chronicles the moments when a play spilled revolution from the stage on to the streets.

The play is set in Dublin on April 24 1916. Ireland’s leading actors abandoned a matinee performance of Cathleen Ni Houlihan. Stepping out of their costumes and taking their revolvers from beneath the Abbey stage, they marched to Dublin Castle. Firing the first shots of the insurrection, they destroyed the status quo and changed forever the course of Irish history. Helena Molony and Sean Connolly rehearsed for rebellion, carried out rebellion, and suffered the fatal and living consequences of their participation.

Rebel Rebel will be shown at the Linenhall Arts Centre on Monday April 25 at 8pm. Booking is strongly advised. To book tickets call (094 ) 9023733 or visit www.thelinenhall.com
