Big show downs this weekend

Soccer: Super League Preview

Ballina Town v Manulla

Saturday, September 19

In Belleek at 6pm

Both sides come into this game on the back of impressive wins last time out. Ballina Town had the odd goal to spare over Iorras Aointaithe in the north Mayo derby last weekend. Dylan McKee's goal 18 minutes from time was enough to seal the win after Benny Lavelle had leveled things up nine minutes earlier. Manulla piled on the pressure on Straide and Foxford United with a 9-1 win, Séan Morrissey tucking away three of the goals. On Saturday, Ballina's need is greater as they try to keep the heat on Westport United at the top of the table.

Verdict: Ballina Town

Westport United v Charlestown Athletic

Saturday, September 19

In the Sportspark at 6pm

As with most games that John Brennan's side go into these days, there looks to be only one winner ahead of this contest. Last weekend United got the job done against Ballyglass in style with a 5-2 win despite going behind early on. Dave Hoban scored twice with Joe Lawless, Darren Browne and Mark McNally chipping in with one each in the win. Charlestown Atheltic's chances of escaping the drop gets smaller and smaller each week. Last weekend Catlebar Celtic saw them off 3-1 and they really need to start picking up points, but on Saturday those chances look very remote.

Verdict: Westport United

Castlebar Celtic v Conn Rangers

Saturday, September 19

In Celtic Park at 6pm

A few more points will see Conn Rangers secure their top division status with only four games remaining in the season. Currently they are seven points clear of second bottom Charlestown Atheltic. A win on Sunday, allied with the east Mayo men losing to Westport United and Straide, and Foxford going down to Ballyglass, could have it all sorted out by Sunday evening at the foot of the table. But Celtic won't be there just to make up the numbers, last weekend a Paul Fitzpatrick hat-trick saw them see off Charlestown 3-1 and they're good value to make it another win this Saturday.

Verdict: Castlebar Celtic

Ballyheane v Iorras Aontaithe

Sunday, September 20

In Quigley Park at 1pm

It's been a very decent season for the men from Quigley Park. They are currently sitting in third place in the table having only lost twice all season. But they have only managed to win seven of their games, whilst drawing five of them well more than any other side in the division. Last weekend they had a very impressive 6-3 win over a Conn Rangers to pick up that seventh win. Iorras Aontaithe couldn't hold onto the lead against Ballina Town last weekend, but they are pretty safe in the lower reaches of mid table at the minute.

Verdict: Draw

Straide & Foxford Utd v Ballyglass

Sunday, September 20

In Green Road at 1pm

It hasn't got any easier for the boys from Green Road as the season has gone on. Last weekend they were hammered 9-1 by Manulla as the trapdoor continues to open inch by inch under their feet as the weeks go by. They will welcome on Sunday a Ballyglass side who are looking to get their season back on track after a few wobbles after a blistering start to the season. Last weekend an understrength Ballyglass were seen off 5-2 at home by Westport in terrible conditions as they fell to fifth place in the table. This game will offer them the perfect springboard to close out the season with a few wins under their belts.

Verdict: Ballyglass
