Sol Rio celebrates

Management and staff at Sol Rio's Restaurant, Westport, were pictured as they celebrated getting a Certificate of Excellence from influential travel website Tripadvisor for the many top reviews it has received about the restaurant. Castlebar Fathers Day Family Cycle

Castlebar Cycling Club in association with Mayo Sports Partnership and Mayo County Council would like to invite families to participate in a free fathers day family cycle on the new Turlough Greenway this Sunday, June 21. Participants are asked to meet at the entrance to the new town park beside the Bike Clinic Springfield Castlebar at 1.45pm. The cycle will commence at 2pm and go 7.5km along the new Greenway to Turlough House, some light refreshments will be available afterwards. Open night in Castlebar Tennis Club

An open night for adults will take place on Wednesday, June 24 next at 8 pm in Castlebar Tennis Club. If you want to try out tennis for the first time, or if you’ve played a little bit before, here’s your chance. It’s free of charge, so why not come along. Holy Souls pilgrimage to Knock Shrine

A Holy Souls pilgrimage to Knock Shrine will take place tomorrow, June 20. Stations of the cross and rosary will take place at 2pm in the Parish Church and outside. At 3pm, mass in the Basilica for the souls in purgatory and the blessing of the sick will take place.

Knock Shrine on RTÉ Nationwide

A special feature on Knock Shrine will be broadcast next Monday, June 22 at 7pm on RTÉ 1. It promises to be a very interesting and comprehensive feature, covering all of the wonderful services at the Shrine and the theme of pilgrimage.

Dog Walk

Mayo Carers will be holding a dog walk on Sunday, June 28 in Lough Lannagh, Castlebar starting at 12pm. There are free goodie bags for the first 50 dogs and prizes for the best dressed pooch. The entry fee is €5 per person or €10 for a family.

Ballintubber pre-school table quiz

Ballintubber pre-school will hold a table quiz this evening in the Abbey Lodge, Corley's and will get underway at 9pm.

Ballyhaunis Ladies GAA Cash for Clothes

Ballyhaunis ladies GAA will continue to hold their cash for clothes fundraising for the next few weeks at the club grounds from 6pm to 7pm on Friday evenings.

Swinford Gardening Club

Alex Lavarde, head gardener at Mount Falcon will give a talk in the Gateway Hotel on June 23 at 8pm. The club will be visiting Strokestown House on Sunday July 19. For more information contact Angela on (087 ) 6520311.

Stewards and volunteers needed

Ballina Salmon Festival are looking for stewards and volunteers to dress up for Mardai Gras on Saturday, July 11. For more details contact the festival office on (096 ) 79814.

West African drumming summer camp in Claremorris

A West African drumming summer camp for children seven years plus will take place in the Curam Family Centre Claremorris from Monday, June 29 to Thursday, July 2. The classes will run from 10.30am to 12.15pm and the course costs €20. Students will learn to play traditional drumming from West Africa. For more information call (094 ) 9362096.

Killala GAA… but not as you know them!

Rumours abound in Killala at the moment, (and it’s nothing to do with power plants ) that the GAA club are planning something a little bit different for summer 2015. This busy and proactive committee are in serious discussions about bringing a new sporting challenge to the area and plans are afoot to make it memorable and meaningful to the whole region. With talk of a new sporting event for the area, all you walkers, athletes and outdoor enthusiasts should get your runners and walking shoes ready and prepare to take part in a unique event, one that people from all over the country are likely to attend. Fitness, ability, speed and endurance are not necessary for taking part but a love of the outdoors and an eagerness to support a good cause will help. Keep an eye here and on the ‘Mayo North’ and ‘Killala GAA’ facebook pages for updates on this ‘off the track’ event.

Ballina Community Radio goes live

Ballina Community Radio will be broadcasting to Ballina and its environs every Saturday and Sunday starting on Saturday, June 27 and ending on Sunday, October 4.The community radio will broadcast on 101.9FM or listeners can go online via www.bcrfm.ie, or from a device using the TuneIn app. Presenters Tom Mc Shane and Barry Rafter will be the first live on air at 9am with The Lie-in. The station is not-for-profit and will continue to be run completely by volunteers who all live in the community and have a passion for the town.

Are you right there Michael?

Calling all Michaels and Michelles of the world. Come and join the fun 5km charity walk on the Castlebar Greenway and Lough Lannagh on Saturday, July 18 at 5pm. Mayo Macra elect new committee

Mayo Macra na Feirme County Executive recently held their AGM recently in Murphy's Bar, Lahardane. The following officers were elected; Chairperson:Stephen Prendergast; Secretary:Deirdre McMorrow; Treasurer:Lynne O'Malley; PRO: Shane Quigley; Competitions Chairperson:Oliver Fair; Competitions Secretary:Sharon Corcoran; Sports, Social and Travel Officer: Sharon Corcoran; Development Officer: Michael Gordan.

Ballinrobe Town Fun day

Ballinrobe Town FC will be hosting a family fun day tomorrow, Saturday, June 20 from 11am to 3pm at The Green in Ballinrobe. The day will feature a boys and girls blitz, parents v kids soccer game, a barbeque and bake sale. All proceeds go towards the continuing development of the club.

Charlestown 50/50 draw

Last week's Charlestown Athletic FC 50/50 weekly draw winner held in Murray's Bar, Charlestown was Stuart, Niall and Casandra, winning €500. Beth and Ben McDonnell was the winner of the €20 in-house draw. Next week's draw takes place on Friday June 19 in McLoughlin's Bar, Charlestown. To enter the draw, simply purchase a 50/50 draw envelope for €2 or you can buy three for €5. Envelopes available from many local outlets. Subscription for 12 or 6 months also available.

Irish Summer camps

An Irish summer camp will take place in Castlebar from July 6 to 10. The cost of the course is €40, for more information call (094 ) 9022444 or (087 ) 9781166.

Hospice thanks

Mayo Roscommon Hospice/ Palliative Care Service would like to sincerely thank all the volunteers who gave of their time to help with National Sunflower Days for Hospice on June 5 and 6 and all who gave so generously to the cause of Hospice. Grateful thanks also to all the stores in Mayo and Roscommon for their kind assistance in making the days such a great success. All the funds raised will go to supporting local Hospice/Palliative Care Services.

Killala Céilí

A céilí will be held in Killala Community Centre on Friday July 10. Matt Cunningham will perform from 10pm to 1am at the centre, where refreshments will be served to all in attendance.

Parent and Toddler Group

Parent and Toddler Group meets in Le Cheile Family Resource Centre, Tucker Street, Castlebar on Mondays from 10am to 12 noon.

Castlebar Summer Markets

Castlebar Summer Markets will run every Friday for the duration of the summer months at the Tennis Pavillion from 9am to 2pm. Come along and browse through the large selection of food arts and crafts. For further information please contact Fintan on (087 ) 1622177

Erris Beo Festival 2015

Go wild during this summer's upcoming Erris Beo Festival, which takes place from June 18 to 21. The festival will include events such as: free guided walks at Cross and at Erris Head guided by our local archaeologist Agatha Hurst; a Monster BBQ at The Clubhouse Gastro Bar & Grill; a boat trip to Inis Gé Island; kayaking for kids; a unique midnight corncrake tour; coasteering - jumping into the Atlantic Ocean from cliffs, for the adrenaline junkies; guided seashore & land foraging walks; a guided hike on Slieve Carr & much more such as an Indoor Market and Cineclub na nOg! Clogher Walks

As part of Mayo in Motion Walking and Cycling June 2013, Clogher Environmental Group is organising walks on Clogher Bog on Tuesday June 23, and 30. Walks commence at Clogher Heritage Centre at 7pm each evening and will be led by Ronnie and Agnes Larkin. This walk is classified as easy to moderate and is a nationally approved loop walk. As part of National Bike Week a Family fun Cycle will take place at Clogher Heritage Centre on Saturday June 20th at 11am. For further details or directions please phone 094 9030869.

Knock Shrine Candlelight Procession

The Candlelight Rosary Procession in Knock Shrine has commenced and will continue every Thursday at 9pm throughout the months of June, July and August.
