Ireland’s Future Electricity Grid
The public is being invited to a public consultation on Ireland’s Future Electricity Grid in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Sligo, on Tuesday May 12 from 11am to 3.30pm.
Guest speakers are Fintan Slye, EirGrid CEO, and Trevor McSharry, Sligo IT.
The public consultation aims to gather feedback on the recently published draft national transmission strategy.

Mayo Dawn Chorus
The Mayo branch of Birdwatch Ireland is hosting the annual Dawn Chorus event this year at Tourmkeady Woods on Sunday May 17, starting at 5.30am.
Meet in the Tourmkeaday Woods Car Park, situated in Tourmakeady village, on the R300 just past the post office.
The path in the woods is approximately 2.5km in length and is a little uneven in places so not suitable for wheelchairs and can be difficult with a buggie. Wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Grow It Yourself
The next GIY (Grow it Yourself ) meeting will be held in Le Cheile Family Resource Centre, Tucker Street, Castlebar, on Monday evening, May 11 at 7.30pm.
There will be a guest speaker in attendance, Zane Joyce, who will tak about the ‘Benefits of Herbs’. All are welcome.
Sunflower volunteers needed
Mayo Roscommon Hospice is appealing for volunteers in all areas to help with National Sunflower Days for Hospice on June 5 and 6.

Ballina bowling
The Ballina Active Retirement group’s mat bowling team took part in a competition in Claremorris April 28 and were successful in getting through to the semi-finals in May.
Bowling takes place in Ballina Sports Centre each Wednesday afternoon from 1.30 to 2.30pm. New members are welcome.
Straide community meeting
A community meeting will be held in Straide on Tuesday next (May 12 ) at 8.30pm in the community hall to discuss the planning of this year’s Straide Fun Day - Spraoi na Sráid.
Spraoi na Sráid is the annual summer fun date for all of the Straide community and everyone is welcome to go along to the meeting with ideas and suggestions for the day.
Art therapy course
Mayo Cancer Support Association is running an art therapy course, starting on Tuesday May 5 and running for four weeks on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm.

Folklore evenings
Clogher Heritage Centre is celebrating the ageing and creativity festival, Bealtaine, with a series of folklore evenings.
An evening of storytelling, local history, and folklore will be held at the centre at 7pm each Wednesday during the month of May.

Children’s Rosary
A group of children from the Castlebar parish are organising a Children’s Rosary in the parish church to honour Our Lady for the month of May.
The children are inviting as many people as possible to join them to pray for any special intentions they may have.
The Children’s Rosary takes place every Friday at 7.30pm.
Swimming challenge comes to Mayo
Swim Ireland is bringing its popular Swim For a Mile challenge to Mayo for the first time.
The initiative prepares members of the public to swim a mile at an event in their locality between May 18 and 22.
The participating pools in Mayo are Ballina Swimming Pool, Castlebar Swimming Pool, Hotel Ballina, and Westport Leisure Park.

Basket weaving course
A day course in the traditional craft of basket weaving is taking place at the Museum of Ireland Country Life in Turlough Park on Wednesday and Thursday, May 13 and 14, from 10am to 4.30pm.
Participants will learn how to work with willow to weave their own basket with Ciaran Hogan on this one day course. Booking is required. There is a €20 fee and materials are provided.
